BLACK UNDIES

by

While it’s no secret that I’m a big fan of rainbow, when it comes to my non-Burning Man underwear I’m a little more monotone. I prefer to keep it simple, so that’s why my new undies are all the same easy to care for color: black.

They are awkwardly modeled by a pillow, and yes, the pillow has pubes.

They’re really more of a bikini-style cut than they look on the pillow. I was able to get five pairs out of about 1 yard of slinky cotton jersey from Fabric Planet. I made the pattern myself a few months ago and have finally gotten it tweaked to perfection. I’m able to make the most comfortable undies that fit me perfectly without ever seeing a label or size. The different elastics keep things from getting too boring in my top drawer.

Since I sew for hours a day at work my at-home production has gone down somewhat, but I’m still keeping busy and making all the time.

MIZZOU CUSTOM SADDLE COVER

by

I’ve been working with Villy Customs out of Dallas, and was recently commissioned to make a seat cover to compliment a customer’s Missouri State-themed bicycle. I enjoyed reproducing the graphic mascot logo with my acrylics, and the bike turned out fantastic!

Fleetwood did an amazing job with all the details! Coincidentally, this bike could very easily be converted into a Saints-cycle; we just need to swap out the saddle cover!

That’s right, even the elastic on the underside of the seat goes with the color scheme! For the sides I used a black lycra with a waffle texture and a slight gold sheen to it.

CONVERTABLE BACKPACK/MESSENGER BAG

by

I’ve been swamped at work, mostly on upholstery projects, but I managed to find some downtime to make something for myself.

I can wear this bag as a backpack or as a messenger bag. The latter will be perfect for keeping my back cool and having access to my stuff while riding my bike, and it will be great to be able to carry my load on both my shoulders. Of course another essential factor is that the bag looks good.

It measures 11″ wide and 14″ tall. Not too big, but my laptop will fit in if I ever need to carry it around… or a 6-pack of beer. The bag has one long strap that runs through two loops at the top. If I pull the strap in the center, it’s a messenger bag. If I pull the strap through the underside of the loops I can wear it on my back. There are snaps on the straps to keep them in place.

It’s made out of a durable red twill and lined with a grey and white floral cotton I got at Fabric Planet. I think the twill will age really well, so it will keep getting cooler the more I use it.

I’m really pleased with the 2-way zipper top. I can close it up securely or leave it open if I need to keep getting in the bag. There’s also a pocket at the front of the bag and another on the inside, and the zippers on those compartments are oriented so that I can easily get in them while riding my bike.

I try not to amass things, particularly of the fashion nature, but this bag is just what I needed. I’m looking forward to carting it around on plenty of adventures.
