PSYCHEDELIC DREAM BACKPACK

The design has come a long way since the original convertible backpack. I got this groovy outdoor upholstery print from Joann, same with the aqua ripstop lining and blue nylon bottom. The zippers are from my stash (I love the brass teeth on colored tape!). The strap was cut from the last backpack purse, and is made from black nylon webbing sandwiched between two layers of thin cotton webbing.

I’m looking forward to many years with this purse, and it was great to sneak time away from my constant work schedule to make something for myself. It’s one of my ultimate acts of self-care.

ELECTRIC music video

There’s a new Story of the Running Wolf video out, and it’s pretty great.

And I made the band’s outfits!

Theoretically there will be a photoshoot someday, and I’ll be able to share clearer shots and details from these labor-intensive costumes. I’m so, so happy with how they came out! That metallic pink striped fabric is one of my favorites, and there’s wire in the collars to help them stand up. As always, lots of spandex.

It was through this shoot that I got connected with Freedom Fry, a perfect example of LA networking.

They’re playing a show this weekend, and I’m making a new set of outfits! Can I ever say it enough?: I love working with these guys!

RAVEY CROCKETT 2.0

I love my Ravey Crockett hat so much that I decided the idea deserved a second round of design.

For Ravey Crockett 2.0, I used a fur that’s more fluffy than hairy. I think it’s a more surreal texture, more like a Muppet and less like a pink version of an earth creature.

This new version has ambiguous ears! The hat can be worn as part of a cat costume, or it can compliment a unique character.

But perhaps the most exciting change is meant to be invisible! I inserted an invisible zipper in the lining, which opens up to a secret stash pocket. The pocket is about 4×6″, big enough for a phone, some money, some little baggies filled with treasure… When closed, the zipper pull is in the corner of the lining, so not too obvious for any nosy searches.

There’s a loop at the base of the tail so that the hat can be clipped to a utility belt. The hat is fun to wear and secure to not wear.
